Understand when your parents need help

Remember that losing their independence is a hard and difficult moment for them to accept. You must be very careful how to do it. Use words of affection, never humiliate them by telling them that they are Incapable and that they can no longer, because in their mind you are telling them that you are no longer good for anything. I suggest you use help words like: I’d like to come help you fix your clothes! How would you like me to cook what you taught me? I can make you eat and get everything ready in the fridge! Do I have time to wash your clothes, will you allow me? I know you can do it perfectly, but I want to h

Since we were kids, we feel protected by our parents and the idea that they are invincible and will never grow old is something that we cannot even imagine. Through the years we become independent and acquire our own obligations. Life goes on and our children grow up and, in some cases, we become grandparents.

Suddenly we realize that our parents are already old and increasingly need more help at home.

But how to identify when our parents need help?

1- When you visit his house, look around you, check their kitchen, bathrooms, their clothes, but the most important thing is their personal cleanliness.

2- Do you observe how they walk? Do they get up easily? Can they take a bath by themselves still? Can they still cook for themselves? What’s in their fridge? Is there enough food? Is there healthy food?

3- How do they manage your finances? Do they pay their bills on time?

4- Do you have to remind them about their medical appointments? To take their medications at the indicated times?

These are some small ways to realize that our parents are on the decline of independence and perhaps we should start intervening.
